Champagne with a fine aromatic richness, it opens with aromas of stoned fruits such as white vineyard peach. A spicy hint announces a powerful complex palate. The 2017 Chardonnay Arthur was aged 10 months in about 15% new oak and has pure aromas of golden apples, quince, toast, honey, almonds and notions of elderflower, hay and chamomile. The folks at Chehalem suppress malo on this tank-fermented chardonnay, highlighting the full range of aromas and flavors of the Willamette Valley fruit. Pure and explosive aromatics redolent of late-summer/early fall farmers' market-stone fruit, citrus, melon, green apple and pear notes are grounded with earthy vanilla and spicy ginger.
