CHĂTEAU LAROSE PERGANSON
CRU BOURGEOIS SUPĂRIEUR Haut-MĂ©doc 2020THE YEAR IN VIEW
The winegrowers were faced with a difficult year in terms of the climate, cumulating all the misfortunes possible… frost, loss of inflorescence, mildew that destroyed part of the crop at an early stage, and to cap it all, drought that finished the work of the mildew by considerably reducing the size of the grapes. 2020 saw early development at all stages, with irregular rainfall mainly occurring during the winter and spring. Only 10mm of rain fell between 20 June and mid-August, with varying reactions from the vines depending on their rootstock, the grape variety, the type of soil and subsoil and their method of cultivation. Do they not say: “hoeing once is better than watering twice”? VĂ©raison, when the berries begin to change colour, began in the last 10 days of July, and was slow and steady, as was grape ripening in September. Once again there was a significant disparity between the date of technological maturity (ripeness of the pulp containing sugars and acidity) and the date of phenolic maturity (ripeness of the skins which contain aromatic precursors, anthocyanins, and tannins). Fortunately, this lengthy waiting period of around two weeks was accompanied by favourable weather, with fresh and fairly dry conditions that augured well for the finished wines for, as everyone knows, Bordeaux does not favour excess. The beginning of the harvest on 17 September in our earliest parcels confirmed the small quantity of grapes. But above all it confirmed all the enormous potential of the vintage where the winemaker who was attentive to the characteristics of the grapes, according to the terroirs and the technical methods employed, was able to compose a symphony that will resonate with all who love harmony, subtlety, aromatic freshness and balance. It brings to mind the famous trilogy of 1988-1989-1990, now with our current tryptic: 2018- 2019-2020.HARVEST

TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby red with violet reflections. Nose of great depth mingling the cherry and blackberry notes of the Merlot and the raspberry of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Dense, luscious, suave and with voluptuous tannins, the ensemble is mellow and smooth, with beautifully textured tannins.
Roureda Llicorella – Classic 2020
Producer: Cellers Unio
Blend: Garnacha, Mazuela, Merlot
Country: Spain
Region: Catalunya
Appellation: Priorat
UPC: 7 57410 03052 2
Appellation Details
Priorat is one of only two Spanish DOQ (Qualified Designation of Origin). The vines grow in poor, rocky soils on mountain slopes, in terraces at an altitude of between 100 and 700 meters above sea level. Most of the land is composed of silica slate, known as “llicorella,” which gives Priorat wines their unique character. Average production per vine is often less than 1 kg. The steep slopes of licorella (brown and black slate) and quartzite soils, protection from the cold winds of the Siera de Monstant, and a lack of water contribute to the region’s unique wines.
Description
Llicorella Classic is a blend of grapes from low-production vines in the villages of Poboleda and Gratallops. Priorat is a Catalan wine-producing region of craggy, jagged, and deeply terraced vineyards. Its renaissance started in the early 1990s with RenĂ© Barbier and five friends creating five “Clos” in the village of Gratallops to revive ancient Carignan vines and plant new, mainly French, varieties. New Priorat wines were modern, using old Carignan and Grenache blended with Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot.
Tasting notes
Deep cherry red color with purple reflections, with aromas of black fruits, vanilla, and toasted almond. The mouth is round and potent, concentrated with hints of marmalade and cocoa. It has a persistent aftertaste, elegant, and balanced with fine nuances from the ageing process. This wine has not been filtered.
