2024 VINTAGE: The 2024 growing season began with an early bud break followed by warm and dry weather. Consistent sunshine throughout the summer allowed for optimal hang time. There was a brief heatwave in July, but cool nights helped maintain acidity. Harvest commenced in early October, allowing for a smooth picking process with no pressure to rush. Overall, fruit quality was outstanding, with balanced acidity and complex flavors. The 2024 vintage yielded vibrant wines with excellent concentration, making it a standout year for Oregon wine.

LA ESPERA EL VALOR DEL TIEMPO
GRAPES: 100% Malbec
ORIGIN: Funckenhausen Vineyards, 25 de Mayo, San Rafael, Mendoza, Argentina. On selected parcels of the vineyard we perform cluster thinning work and debbudding in order to maximize the oenological quality of the grape clusters.
VINEYARDS: Our vineyards are located in 25 de Mayo, San Rafael, Mendoza at 850 masl in a semi-desert climate region that registers a high thermal amplitude. Planted on a hill, they are favored by constant winds. The Malbec selected for this line comes from two plots, one of them characterized by a deep sandy-loam soil. The other one has a first layer of sand and clay mixed with boulders and carbonate deposits that compact in some areas giving presence of caliche. Franc foot vines planted in 2003 and 2008, trained using a high trellis double cordon spur-pruning system and drip irrigation with meltwater from the Andes. Yield: 7.000 kg per hectare.
HARVESTING: Hand-picking in 16 kg cases between the third and fourth week of March.
WINEMAKING: Selection and de-stemming. Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (25°C-28°C) with selected yeasts. Maceration period: for approximately 21 days. Malolactic fermentation: spontaneous. Ageing in oak barrels: for 12 months in 225-liter French oak barrels. Blending: of the wine from the two different plots. Clarification and slight filtering before bottling. Ageing in the bottle: 6-12 months prior to being released.
WINEMAKER: Jimena López
AGRONOMIST: Aquiles Lucchini
TASTING NOTES: Intense and dark violet colored wine. It’s nose presents aromas of black plums, herbs, cassis and raspberry. It is velvety textured and well-structured on the palate and characterized by a long lasting and elegant finish.
